Woven Into the Void

Woven Into the Void begins with nothing. A pure black surface, undisturbed, until controlled scratches open a passage into it. Thin lines of light appear where the acrylic glass has been altered, and from those lines a whole landscape unfolds, plane after plane folding away toward a single point far in the distance.

There is no pigment here, no print, nothing added to the surface. The image exists only because material has been taken away. What looks like architecture, or memory, or a corridor through space, is really just light finding the grooves left behind, and choosing, depending on where you stand, to reveal them or let them disappear again.

From across the room the piece reads as a single vast structure, a landscape built entirely of geometry and distance. Step closer and that structure dissolves into a field of individual marks, each one small, each one necessary, none of them meaning anything alone. The eye is pulled inward either way, toward that one vanishing point where every plane seems to agree to meet.

That pull is the real subject of the work. We are drawn toward the point we cannot quite reach, the place where lines converge and space runs out. It is a quiet meditation on depth itself, on how much can be suggested by very little, on how emptiness can hold more than a crowded surface ever could.

Woven Into the Void continues the Art with Scratch series by Tijs Dragtsma, in which imagery is constructed through controlled surface damage rather than pigment or print. A visual language where damage is not destruction, but structure.
