Up close the knot is mostly air, its loops traced only at the edges, so the part of the image that should feel heaviest becomes the part that is least there.\n\nThat is the quiet reversal at the heart of this piece. The face, small and human, is given the most density the work allows. The knot, monumental and strange, is carried mostly by absence, its volume implied by outline rather than filled by mass. Presence and disappearance keep trading places across the surface.\n\nFrom across a room the work reads as a single calm portrait, a woman turned inward beneath an impossible, sculptural crown.
