Weg4 is a contemporary artwork about presence, stillness and the quiet pull of a profile seen from the side.
A woman, rendered not through line or pigment, but through light. Her form rises from absolute darkness, assembled through controlled scratches in acrylic glass, each mark catching the light in its own way. From a distance, the silhouette is calm and whole. Step closer, and the image opens into a field of fine surface damage, a texture the eye can read but the hand would barely feel.
She does not face you. She is turned inward, or perhaps turned away. That refusal of a direct gaze creates its own gravity. The viewer approaches a presence that does not ask to be seen, only to be sensed.
No paint. No ink. No print. The figure exists because the surface has been altered, through removal rather than addition. The darkness around her is untouched. What she is made of is what was taken away.
As the light shifts, she shifts with it. Her profile gains and loses definition, moving between clarity and quiet depending on where you stand and how the light falls. She is never quite fixed. She lives in that movement.
The title carries its own resonance. Weg holds both path and departure, something moving away from us, and in doing so drawing us closer.
Weg4 continues the Art with Scratch series by Tijs Dragtsma, in which imagery is constructed through controlled surface damage rather than pigment or print. A visual language where damage is not destruction, but structure.
"She is not gone. She is simply looking somewhere else."
