The Held Breath of Aim

The Held Breath of Aim holds a single suspended second, the moment an archer draws the bow to its fullest tension and stops there. Every muscle is set, every line of the body drawn tight around one point of focus somewhere beyond the frame.

There is no violence in this stillness, only concentration. The white shirt gathers what little light exists, and the pale line of the arms and the bent curve of the bow become the only certainties in an otherwise unlit world.

This is the quiet before consequence, the instant when intention has fully gathered but nothing has yet been let go. It speaks to anyone who has held themselves still on the edge of a decision, breath caught, waiting for the exact moment to release.

As with every work in the Void series, nothing has been added to this surface. No paint, no print, no ink. The image exists instead as depth and absence, a surface that must be met by light before the figure appears at all.

From across a room the archer reads as a single monumental silhouette, silent and complete. Move closer, and that certainty dissolves into a field of depth, texture and shadow, the same held tension revealed differently at every distance.

The Held Breath of Aim continues the Art with Void series by Tijs Dragtsma, in which imagery is constructed through depth and absence rather than paint or print. A visual language where absence is not emptiness, but presence.
