The Ground Still Remembers

A shape remains on the wet stone, the outline of a body that lay there only moments before. Rain has darkened every inch around it, yet this one silhouette stays dry, a negative space holding the last trace of someone who has already gone.

No paint. No print. No ink. The image is scratched into the surface of the acrylic glass, built through removal rather than addition, so that presence and absence sit inside the very same line.

The image is always visible, with or without directed light. Light does not create it, it sharpens it. Under a direct source the controlled scratches catch and reflect, the contrast deepens, and the work reads differently from every angle without ever losing what it shows.

From a distance the piece reads as a single dramatic scene, a body's absence caught under a hard, theatrical light from above. Come closer and that same scene resolves into a field of controlled surface damage, each mark part of a surface that never stops being physical.

The true subject is not the person, who has already left the frame. It is the ground itself, and how briefly it agrees to hold a record of us before the rain closes back over it, a single dry shape standing as quiet evidence that someone was here.
