At the center of Ringed in Silent Fire burns a single point of light, quiet and absolute, held inside two wide rings that circle outward like the arms of a galaxy seen face on. It is an image built on stillness, the kind of stillness that only exists at a vast distance.

Nothing here was painted, printed or inked onto the surface. The glow of the core, the fine grain of the rings, the scatter of stars in the dark beyond them, all of it takes shape through depth alone, through what has been taken away rather than added.

The work changes with the room it hangs in. In flat light it settles into a calm, almost silent field. As the light shifts, as a lamp moves or the day turns toward evening, the rings begin to separate from the dark around them, and the core seems to breathe.

From across a room the piece reads as one radiant, unbroken form, monumental and still. Move closer and that same form opens into a field of fine, granular depth, countless small absences that only resolve into structure from far away.

A barred spiral holds its arms together with a gravity no eye can see, a whole galaxy turning in silence over spans of time too large to hold in the mind. Ringed in Silent Fire borrows that scale and brings it down to the size of a wall, an ember that burns without heat, fire that is only light and distance.

The piece continues the Art with Void series by Tijs Dragtsma, in which imagery is constructed through depth and absence rather than paint or print. A visual language where absence is not emptiness, but presence.

"Even in silence, fire finds its shape."
