Orbit of a Single Line

Orbit of a Single Line begins with a single thread of light, coiled without end. There is no beginning drawn on this sphere and no closing point, only one continuous line spiralling from pole to pole, tightening where it turns and opening wide at its equator, until the whole form reads as motion held still.

Nothing was added to make this image. It is built from depth and controlled absence, from the way a surface lets light travel around a curve and refuse to travel around another. What you see is not drawn on the acrylic glass, it is drawn out of it.

From across a room the work settles into something monumental and quiet, a single dark sphere suspended in its own gravity. Move closer and that stillness opens into a field of depth, coil after coil, each one catching the light differently as your own position shifts.

An orbit has no start and no destination, only a path that returns to itself. Here that idea is given form: one line, one continuous decision, spiralling around an axis until it becomes a whole world. It is a quiet meditation on continuity, on how something singular can circle long enough to become complete.

The image appears and fades with light, contrast and the angle from which it is seen. Some hours it is nearly all shadow, a dense knot of dark on dark. Others it opens fully, each coil distinct, the poles drawing tight like a held breath.
