Formally Forsaken

Formally Forsaken is a contemporary artwork about composure, rejection and the quiet weight of what is never returned.

The figure stands motionless in a black void. Dressed with precision, surrounded by white papers falling in slow ceremony. Each page a proposal, an offering, something extended and sent back. The face reveals nothing. And everything.

There is a particular kind of grief in staying upright. In keeping the suit pressed while the world falls apart around you. This image holds that grief. The kind that is too composed to be called collapse, too broken to be called fine.

No paint. No print. No ink. The figure emerges through controlled surface damage on acrylic glass. The image appears not by adding something to the surface, but by removing it.

As light shifts across the acrylic glass, the figure moves between clarity and absence. From a distance, the work holds the weight of a monument. Closer, the surface opens into a field of controlled scratches, each one catching the light differently, each one carrying its quiet purpose.

Formally Forsaken continues the Art with Scratch series by Tijs Dragtsma, in which imagery is constructed through controlled surface damage rather than pigment or print. A visual language where damage is not destruction, but structure.
