Darkness Holds Court

Tony Montana has become more than a character. He is a mythology built from hunger, ambition, and the cost of both. Seated here in silence, stripped of chaos, he becomes something rarer than a king at his peak. He becomes a king after the fall. This portrait holds that moment without commentary.

No paint. No print. No ink. The image emerges through controlled surface damage on acrylic glass. Each scratch catches the light at a different angle, pulling a face, a jaw, a curl of cigar smoke into visibility before releasing it back into the dark. What is seen is not added. It is uncovered.

Light changes everything here. As it shifts across the surface, Montana moves between clarity and calm. Sharp and imposing one moment, dissolving into shadow the next. That movement belongs to the subject. Power never held still, and neither does this portrait.

From a distance, the work carries the weight of a monument. A figure in darkness, timeless and severe, reduced to what light decides to reveal. Step closer, and the image dissolves into a field of controlled scratches on acrylic glass. The portrait lives somewhere between those two distances.
