A single sheet, torn along its upper edge, folded until the paper itself seems to remember only tension. Every crease in Creases Radiating From Silence pulls outward from one point near the top, as if something arrived there and the surface simply had to answer.

The work is not painted and not printed. It is built from depth, from the way a plane gives way to shadow and returns to light, controlled absences carved into the surface until an image of folded, breaking paper stands where there was none.

From across the room it reads as one gesture, calm, almost architectural. Closer, the same surface breaks into dozens of small facets, each one catching or losing the light differently as you move, so the piece never quite settles into a single, final version of itself.

There is a quiet violence in a crease, the moment a flat thing is forced to hold a fold forever. Here that moment radiates outward from a single origin, as if silence itself had a center and everything else was just the record of it spreading.

Hung in a room with shifting daylight, the piece changes hour to hour: sharp and graphic at midday, soft and almost vanished at dusk. It asks to be lived with, not just looked at once.

Creases Radiating From Silence continues the Art with Void series by Tijs Dragtsma, in which imagery is constructed through depth and absence rather than paint or print. This work is unique.

"Even stillness has a point where it begins to break."
