Breaking Through Concentric Silence

A single white cube presses forward from the center of the frame, its three visible faces catching a quiet, even light. Around it, ring after ring bends and gives way, the perfect circles losing their calm as the form pushes through, breaking a silence that had closed in on itself.

The rings read as containment, repetition, the pull toward sameness. The cube is the one form that refuses it, plain and unadorned, insisting on its own edges where the rings only offer curves. It is a quiet study in resistance, in what it costs a single shape to hold its ground.

Nothing here is painted, printed or inked onto the surface. The cube and the rings that circle it exist only because material has been taken away, so that light falling across the remaining depth is what gives the image its form.

This work continues the Art with Void series by Tijs Dragtsma, in which imagery is constructed through depth and absence rather than paint or print.

Seen from across a room, it settles into a still, monumental object, almost a single held breath in white and black. Move closer, and the surface opens into a field of shifting depth, the rings and the cube trading places as the light and your own position change.

A visual language where absence is not emptiness, but presence.
