A Vortex of White Threads

The surface opens like a slow exhale. Thick white bands rise and fall down the canvas, their wavering rhythm unbroken, until every line bends the same way and is drawn toward a single round absence at the edge, a place where the surface itself seems to have given way.

Nothing was added to make this happen. There is no paint tracing the curve of each band, no print layering the light and dark, no ink pooling in the hollow at the center. The image is cut from depth alone, a controlled absence carved so precisely that it reads, from a distance, as pure motion.

Light decides what you see. In one hour the bands stand out crisp and sculptural, each ridge catching a hard edge of white. In another, the same surface softens, its rhythm dissolving into shadow until only the dark center remains, patient and unmoving. The work is never finished; it is only ever being revealed.

From across a room it holds still, monumental and quiet, a single dark eye set into a field of moving lines. Walk closer and that stillness breaks open into a landscape of ridges and troughs, a field of depth that shifts with every step you take.

There is a pull built into this piece, the sense of something gathering itself and disappearing into a point it cannot resist. It speaks to anything drawn inward against its own will, attention, memory, the quiet erosion of certainty, the way a thought can be pulled toward a single dark question until nothing else is visible.
