In the depth of the black, a formation of pale, rounded forms rises together, seen from directly above. Each one is crowned with a soft, luminous highlight, as if the light itself has come to rest there, and each carries a single dark band around its narrow neck, marking it apart even as it stands shoulder to shoulder with the others.

Bowling pins, gathered before the fall, hold here a quiet and unfamiliar dignity. Seen this way, tightly clustered and facing skyward, they read less like a game and more like a small congregation, a formation of pale sentinels waiting in stillness for something that has not yet arrived.

No paint touches this surface. No print, no ink. The image exists as depth cut into the material itself, a controlled absence that only becomes visible when light finds it.

From a distance the piece is quiet, almost monumental, a dark field holding a soft cluster of light. Move closer, and it opens into something else entirely, a landscape of depth, each void catching and releasing the light differently as the eye and the room around it shift.

This work continues the Art with Void series by Tijs Dragtsson, in which imagery is constructed through depth and absence rather than paint or print.

A visual language where absence is not emptiness, but presence.

"Nine watchers, waiting in the dark for the light to name them."
