The crest rises from silence, feather by feather, until it reaches the very edge of the frame. A white cockatoo turns in profile, calm and unhurried, its crown opening like something between a flame and a halo.

Nothing here was added. The image is built from depth and absence, surfaces held back and surfaces let through, so that light does the work paint or print never could.

Stand close and the bird dissolves into a field of fine structure, a quiet architecture of feather and shadow. Step back and it gathers itself into one still, monumental gesture, visible only when the light finds it.

A crest fanned this wide is a language older than words, a signal of alertness, of display, of something fierce held in reserve. Here it reads instead as a kind of quiet defiance, a crown worn without weight, fire without heat.

The piece changes with the hour, with the angle of a lamp, with where you choose to stand. It asks to be lived with rather than looked at once.

This work continues the Art with Void series by Tijs Dragtsma, in which imagery is constructed through depth and absence rather than paint or print. A visual language where absence is not emptiness, but presence.

"A crown built from nothing but light, and the patience to let it appear."
