Found by Light

Found by Light is a contemporary artwork about surrender, emergence and the quiet moment stillness becomes visible.

A woman's face turns upward, barely touched by light. Her cheekbones catch it first. Then her lips, her eyelids. The rest remains in deep black. She is not searching for the light. She has already been found by it. That quiet moment of release, of peaceful arrival, is what this work holds.

There is no paint here. No print. No ink. The image does not appear through addition. It emerges from the surface of acrylic glass through controlled scratches, each one catching light at a different angle. The face reveals itself only when the conditions allow. When the viewer shifts, the light shifts. When the light shifts, the image breathes.

From across the room, the work reads as a monumental portrait. A face rising from darkness. A figure held in cinematic stillness. Up close, the surface becomes a field of controlled surface damage, a dense and deliberate texture where light and material negotiate meaning. Nothing is painted. Everything is structured.

Light, in this work, is not decorative. It is the entire mechanism. The darkness around her is not background. It is the beginning. She is not illuminated from without so much as she is drawn forward from within the material itself.

Found by Light continues the Art with Scratch series by Tijs Dragtsma, in which imagery is constructed through controlled surface damage rather than pigment or print. A visual language where damage is not destruction, but structure.
