Curved Into Silence

Curved Into Silence is a contemporary artwork about form, stillness and the body as a quiet presence.

The human torso, stripped of identity and context, becomes something else. A landscape of light and shadow. A study in the architecture of the body, where curves carry weight and negative space holds its breath.

No paint. No print. No ink. The image is drawn from the surface of the acrylic glass itself, through controlled scratches that catch and release light as the viewer moves. From a distance, the form reveals itself with sculptural clarity. Step closer, and the surface opens into a field of fine marks, each one a trace of something removed, not added.

The title speaks to what the body communicates without words. The curve of the torso is a gesture frozen in stillness. A breath held. A form that says nothing, and everything. In the tradition of fine art bodyscape photography, the human figure becomes abstract, architectural, elemental. Here, that abstraction deepens further. The image withdraws at certain angles and returns at others. Silence made visible. Presence made uncertain.

This work continues the Art with Scratch series by Tijs Dragtsma, in which imagery is constructed through controlled surface damage rather than pigment or print. A visual language where damage is not destruction, but structure.
