It is the colour of laurel and bramble, of things that grow wild around old ruins, and it settles Venus in something closer to earth than white museum marble, so the goddess of love returns as a figure still rooted in nature rather than sealed behind glass.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAround her, the deep green coloured mirror glass holds the room. Look at the work and you also catch the wall behind you, the shape of whoever is standing near it, drawn into the same green field that holds the goddess. She is presented, but never closed off from the space she hangs in, and the viewer becomes part of the composition.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe image is always there, in every light. A single hard source across the room deepens the contrast and lets the field of individual marks catch and hold the light, but nothing here needs to be switched on to be seen. Light does not create this Venus. It sharpens her.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eUp close the monumental figure dissolves into a field of fine scratches, each one part of a larger current running through her hair, her shoulder, the drape at her hip.
