The shoulder and the fall of cloth answer it with a quieter density, present but never insisting. The far side of the face gives way first, sinking into the same darkness that holds the rest of the room, and that surrender is the point. The work keeps only what the light is willing to keep.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt is a study in yielding, which is what a nymph is for in the old stories, a body that belongs partly to the world of gods and partly to weather, water, shade.
