Turn it toward a stronger source and the scratches catch and hold what is already there, and the contrast deepens. Light does not create the image. It sharpens it. This portrait does the opposite. It closes in until only the essentials remain: the raised chin, the damp skin, the eyes searching for something past the stage lights.
