It does not wait for a lamp to reveal it, and it does not depend on the angle of a room. Light does not create this face. It sharpens it, deepening the contrast until the crown seems to tighten and the eyes seem to lift further into whatever they are seeing.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eFrom across a room the work reads as a single luminous portrait, a head rising out of darkness. Close up, that portrait dissolves into a field of scratches, each one a small, deliberate act of removal.
